Class A State 3rd Place – Red Lake 45 vs. Central Minnesota Christian 79

The Bluejays of Central Minnesota Christian (28-4) stretched out a steady lead over Red Lake (27-6) to take a third place finish in the 2016 MSHSL Boys' Class A State Tournament. They teams were evenly matched offensively, but turnovers and rebounds gave Central the advantage for the 79-45 win.

Both teams shot well from the field, hitting mid-40% for much of the game. Forward Taylor Slagter gave his team a boost with a 31 point game, making moves in the paint as well as hitting shots from the wing. The Bluejay crowd came to their feet near the 12 minute mark of the second half as Ethan Brouwer found a cutting Slagter for an easy layup and an 18-point lead.

Central's lead was pushed even further in the ensuing minutes when Red Lake's leading offensive threat, Rob McLain, fouled out with two quick fouls. From there, the Bluejays pushed the pace and never looked back.

A tough defensive front by Central as well as a hearty rebound advantage were the main difference makers in the game. The Bluejays forced 22 Ogichidaag turnovers that led to 25 points and had a 49-27 edge on the boards.

Will Morrison was the leading offensive player for Red Lake with nine points. Central's Slagter 31 points topped all players, also adding nine rebounds in the effort. Ethan Brouwer finished with a game high 11 rebounds.
