Bemidji man among three charged for allegedly bringing heroin to Itasca County

ITASCA COUNTY—A Bemidji man and two others face felony charges in Itasca County after authorities arrested them for alleged involvement in transporting heroin from Detroit to northern Minnesota.

Nicholas Virgil Blackbear, 28, of Bemidji; Joshua Morgan Hunter, 20, of Grand Rapids; and Dwayne Jones Jr., 30, of Detroit were arrested Monday after a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 169 in Itasca County after authorities received a tip that Jones and Blackbear were transporting heroin. The Itasca County Attorney's Office reported "about 130 grams of suspected heroin" was found in a backpack in the trunk of the vehicle.

The three men each face one count of conspiracy to commit controlled substance crime in the first degree, a felony carrying a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
