Mother in child-abuse case pleads guilty

A mother charged with felony child abuse and neglect for injuring her toddler son while she argued with her boyfriend last March changed her plea on Friday to guilty.

Emmy Rouillard, 23, a resident of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, initially pleaded not guilty in the incident that occurred on March 15, 2015. But with the guilty plea in federal court in Rapid City, she is facing a prison sentence of up to 15 years.

The man she was fighting and her co-defendant in the case, Robert Red Shirt, was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison for kicking Rouillard’s 20-month-old son in the face.
