Yakama Tribal boys basketball flying high with first state berth

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakama Tribal’s boys came close to an unprecedented breakthrough in each of the past two seasons only to have their state quest end in agonizing fashion in the regional round.

Then, after dropping back-to-back games to rival Sunnyside Christian to lose the district championship two weeks ago, coach Adam Strom thought his Eagles might be headed for heartbreak once again.

But this team, while still young, has learned from those prior setbacks and wasn’t about to let it happen again as Yakama Tribal got that signature performance, outplaying Entiat on Saturday to earn the school’s first state boys basketball berth.
