Bemidji man runs from jail building into nearby school, quickly arrested
BEMIDJI -- A Bemidji man was arrested minutes after he fled from the Beltrami County Jail on Tuesday and ran into a school across the street.
Billie Joe Large, 26, was under arrest for probation violation and possession of methamphetamine when he ran from the county jail building on the 600 block of Beltrami Avenue at about 1:42 p.m. Tuesday. He ran across the street and entered St. Philip's Catholic School.
Some of the school's 268 students were leaving the school at the time, as they take the bus to Bemidji Middle School at that time, said Rev. Chuck Huck of St. Philip's.
