SUPER TUESDAY: Beltrami County DFL sides with Sanders

BEMIDJI—Democratic-Farmer-Labor voters in Beltrami County overwhelmingly went with U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, D-Vt., during caucusing Tuesday, resulting in the win over former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

According to Beltrami DFL Chair Steve Nelson, 1,449 voters went to the caucuses held in 12 locations countywide and 1,035 of them chose Sanders as their presidential candidate. Clinton, meanwhile, took 405 votes, while two votes went for former presidential candidate Martin O'Malley, six were uncommitted and Nelson described one vote as going to "other."

After the caucuses, Nelson called the numbers encouraging and said, "in 2008, we had about 800 and we thought that was good, and this year we almost doubled it."
