HEROIN OVERDOSES INVESTIGATED

Over the weekend Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Bemidji Police Department and Leech Lake Tribal Police responded to calls regarding people overdosing on Heroin. One of the individuals identified as Adrian Richard Dunn, age 39, of Bemidji, died and the other three are being treated at medical facilities.

Dunn’s call came in as a medical report to the 911 call center at 5:31 AM on Saturday 02/27/2106, as a report of an individual who was not breathing at Apartment 7, 616 Patriot Drive NW, Bemidji, MN. Deputies arrived and began providing CPR and other lifesaving measures including AED, chest compression and oxygen to no avail. Bemidji Ambulance arrived on scene and transported Mr. Dunn to Sanford ED where he was pronounced.

The other cases are medicals and the sheriff’s office and police departments do not comment on medical calls.

An investigation is underway to determine the sources of the heroin and whether the cases are interrelated. Chemical analysis of the drug will be conducted to determine if an adulterant caused the death or if the death was due to an over dose of a more pure amount of heroin. Those results will take time. This investigation is on-going and investigators are still seeking witnesses and executing search warrants to determine the facts.

Law Enforcement asks all citizens who are aware of their loved ones or friends’ use of drugs to closely monitor them for breathing difficulties, incoherence and unconsciousness, all of which indicate an emergency need for medical treatment. To save their lives, these individuals need immediate transport to a hospital.

Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Bemidji Police, Leech Lake Tribal Police, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, BIA, Paul Bunyan Task Force are working jointly on this investigation.

Anyone with knowledge about these cases or information to share about the distribution of heroin in our community is asked to contact law enforcement at 318-333-9111.

Chief Deputy Ernie Beitel
