Red Lake Nation DFL Precinct Caucuses - "Super" Tuesday, March 1st, 2016

7:00 pm Local Community Center's

The term caucus apparently comes from an Algonquin word meaning "Gathering of Tribal Chiefs". Caucuses are just as important as your vote on Election day. This is the beginning of the grassroots effort to kick off the election season. At caucuses people discuss DFL party platform, issues and vote to endorse a presidential candidate.

This is also the beginning process to be elected as a delegate to the National Democratic Convention. What is a delegate? Delegates to the endorsing convention are elected at the precinct caucuses. Those who are elected are also delegates to both the SenateDistrict (SD) and county convention. At the SD is where delegates endorse State Senator and House Representative. Anyone can attend as an observer but only delegates get to vote.

How many delegates does Red Lake Nation have? 41!

Red Lake:13

Redby:10

Ponemah:8

Little Rock:7

(Clearwater county:possibly 2)

Tribal Chair:1

Tribal chairs who attend caucus or send letter are automatically a delegate up to state convention. Any person who can't attend caucus can also send a letter of interest to be a delegate. With limited number of delegates and unknown turnout it's always best to attend.

I encourage all of you to join me in attending caucuses.
