HEROIN - PUBLIC SAFETY MESSAGE

On February 27, 2016, the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office responded to two emergency calls for service and the Bemidji Police Department also responded to two other emergency calls for service involving individuals overdosing on Heroin. One of the individuals died and the other three are in being treated at medical facilities.

Law Enforcement is concerned that heroin being distributed locally is causing the overdoses. Local Law Enforcement does not condone drug use but urges the public to use caution.

We strongly urge all citizens who are aware of their loved ones or friends' use of drugs to closely monitor them for breathing difficulties, incoherence and unconsciousness, all of which indicate an emergency need for medical treatment. To save their lives, these individuals need immediate transport to a hospital.

We have no further information available at this time.
