Cass Lake-Bena fends off pesky Mahnomen

BEMIDJI — Seventh-seeded Mahnomen put up a good fight Thursday, but ultimately the talent of No. 2 Cass Lake-Bena took over and won the quarterfinal matchup 76-66 at Bemidji High School.

“At the beginning of the game, I told the kids not to relax,” CL-B coach Alvin Wind said. “Because tournament time, you know, teams come to play.”

The gym hit its loudest point with five minutes left in the game, when a field goal by Mahnomen’s Tommy Pavek capped a 9-2 Indians run to bring the score to 59-55.
