Wheat, Dairy and Turkey Councils select leadership
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced the results of the recent elections of board members to serve on three Minnesota commodity councils. The MDA is responsible for administering the elections and certifying the ballots.
The Minnesota Wheat Research and Promotion Council elected the following members to serve three-year terms:
Region 1 Tony Brateng, Roseau, Minnesota
Tim Dufault, Crookston, Minnesota
Region 2 Kevin Leiser, Fertile, Minnesota
The Minnesota Dairy Promotion Council elected the following members to serve two-year terms:
District 1 Dan Grunhovd, Gary, Minnesota
District 3 Kristine Spadgenske, Menahga, Minnesota
District 5 Debi Clasemann, Long Prairie, Minnesota
District 7 Suzanne Vold, Glenwood, Minnesota
District 9 John Merdan, Avon, Minnesota
District 11 Tom Walsh, DeGraff, Minnesota
District 13 Kevin Buss, Hutchinson, Minnesota
District 15 Barbara Liebenstein, Dundas, Minnesota
District 17 James Dose, Lake City, Minnesota
District 19 Karen Kasper, Owatonna, Minnesota
District 21 Rita Young, Plainview, Minnesota
The Minnesota Turkey Research and Promotion Council elected the following members to serve three-year terms:
Region Two John Peterson, Cannon Falls, Minnesota
At-Large Christopher Huisinga, Willmar, Minnesota
Scott Jones, Willmar, Minnesota
Through the mandatory check-off program, farmers pay a percentage of their sale proceeds to their commodity council. Commodity councils use the funds to pay for promotion, communication and research activities aimed at increasing crop value for producers.
