Murder suspect caught in Red Lake
The suspect in a January homicide in Columbia Heights was apprehended Friday on the Red Lake Indian Reservation of northern Minnesota.
According to the Anoka County sheriff’s office, Evan Ramon Denny, 18, of Minneapolis was taken into custody without incident around 2:15 p.m. at a Red Lake home. Denny, who was previously charged with second-degree murder, remains in custody by tribal police pending extradition to Anoka County. Denny is accused of shooting 20-year-old Mohamud Abdiwahab Hilowle multiple times in the 1200 block of Circle Terrace Boulevard early on Jan. 24. The shooting followed an argument over a cellphone, according to the criminal complaint filed in Anoka County. Investigators spoke with witnesses who were inside the home at the time of the shooting, and they identified Denny as the shooter. Denny also has warrants for his arrest stemming from a shooting in Minneapolis and will also face charges in Hennepin County.
