Ready to soar with solar. Red Lake Nation takes renewable energy step with solar plan (W/ VIDEO)
BEMIDJI -- With some strokes of a pen on Thursday, officials of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians inked an agreement formalizing a renewable energy plan that utilizes solar power.
The agreement, which was made between the Red Lake Nation, the Winkelman Building Corp., Innovative Power Systems Inc. and the Olson Energy Corp., moves forward a project that was set in motion last year by band Chairman Darrell Seki.
The solar power plan is divided into three phases, with the first addressing the process of adding equipment to buildings. According to information from Red Lake officials, the first phase consists of developing between $20-$30 million in solar energy equipment, as well as solar energy training for the workforce.
