Robert Orr Baab M.D.

Robert Orr Baab, M.D., 84, of Wooster passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016 at his home.

Born July 17, 1931 in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of John and Emily Orr Baab of Orrville, OH.

Robert was a graduate of Smithville High School, received his Bachelor's degree from the College of Wooster and was graduated from The Ohio State University Medical School. He began his career in 1958 as a general physician with the Public Health Service at the Red Lake Indian Reservation in northern Minnesota. In 1962 he relocated to Crookston, MN, where he was the anesthesiologist at Crookston Riverview Hospital for 25 years. He returned to Wooster in 1984, practicing at Wooster Community Hospital for 26 years.

Robert was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He belonged to many medical societies and many theatre groups in Northeast Ohio including the WaCPAC in Wooster. He was involved with theatre for more than 35 years. An avid fan of baseball, Robert was a player, coach and umpire. He was inducted into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed photography.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Jelinski Baab; his children, Elizabeth Baab of Orrville, OH, Samantha (David Delehanty) Baab of Pocatello, ID, Leslie (Jan Mankovecky) Baab of Columbus, OH, Matthew Baab of Brooklyn, NY, and Paula (Joe) Kavanaugh of Minneapolis, MN; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and a sister, Sarah Wilson, of Marshallville, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave., Wooster with the Rev. Stephen P. Moran as celebrant.
