New data released by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction shows 16% of all Washington students missed more than 18 days of school in 2015.
It’s defined as chronic absenteeism and affecting student performance.
"One of the factors that is a barrier to learning is whether they're in school or not," said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn.
