Questions raised after Schoolcraft board suspends director

BEMIDJI—Some stood firmly behind their school and its longtime director, while others brought concerns about whether Schoolcraft Learning Community is still the best place to send their child during the school board's first public meeting since it suspended Scott Anderson.

Parents dominated the conversation Tuesday about how the charter school should move forward, less than a week after allegations surfaced that Anderson made unwanted sexual advances toward a now former school employee. The board announced Anderson's suspension last week after an independent investigation found he exhibited "inappropriate conduct" in his relationship with Emily Williams, a paraprofessional and nurse who left the school last year.

"I would like to compliment the board for how you've handled a difficult situation," one woman said. She added the fallout has been the most difficult on Anderson, and that she was sorry to see the story in the local media.
