Prosecutor says slaying suspect's rights weren't violated

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) Prosecutors say law officers who handled the case of a man accused in a drug-fueled slaying on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation did not trample on the suspect's rights.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Volk has asked a federal judge to throw out a defense request to bar key evidence at Marcel Chase's trial in May.

Chase is accused of killing Toby Young Bear with his bare hands during a meth-fueled fight in December 2014, then stashing the body in the trunk of his mother's car. He could face up to life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder.
