Beltrami commissioners to hear from Red Lake officials regarding fed program

BEMIDJI -- Members of the Red Lake Economic Development staff will meet with the Beltrami County Board of Commissioners Tuesday during a work session to discuss an application to take part in a federal program.

Officials from the Red Lake Nation are in the process of preparing a proposal to request designation as a Promise Zone.

According to county documents, Promise Zones are urban, rural and tribal communities that have been federally designated to partner with national agencies. The goal of the program is for local leaders to receive federal aid in order to increase economic activity, improve educational opportunities and reduce crime.
