Man raided tribal graves, sold artifacts for $20, may have been funding meth habit, authorities say

A 47-year-old Klamath Falls man who investigators believe was digging up Native American burial artifacts and hawking them -- possibly to support a methamphetamine habit -- has been sentenced to 20 days in jail for two felony crimes.

Douglas Porter Cotellese was caught after law enforcement agents posing as collectors bought some of the sacred artifacts for $20 in one sting and $160 in another, authorities say. Investigators believe Cotellese unearthed beads and other artifacts from known Klamath tribal burial sites along the Link River, which is a short waterway connecting Upper Klamath Lake to Lake Ewauna.
