Day Two: 10th Annual Drug and Gang Summit held in Red Lake

RED LAKE, MN – The 10th Annual Drug and Gang Summit kicked off the second day of the three-day event on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the Red Lake Casino Event Center.

After the opening ceremonies by MC Murphy Thomas, the Key Note speaker was Senator Jonathon Windy Boy, State of Montana, and other guest speaker Rosemary White Shield, who's subject was "Native Healing Approaches to Trauma."

More workshops were held in the afternoon and included Substance Abuse in Indian Country, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, Civil Committment and CHP Resources, Gang Prevention, First Steps to Health Babies, Hep C, HIV & Naloxone Program, Native Centered Healing and Approaches to Trauma and Grief, Civil Forfeiture, First Steps to Healthy Babies and Equay Wiigamig, Women's Shelter.

At 6 PM a Round Dance Social took place at the Red Lake Casino Event Center, which featured hand drum singers, contests and some good music and dancing.

Day 3 and the final day will feature Kelly Brunell and Ron Leyba from Red Lake Law Enforcement who will present "Highway Safety & Drug Interdiction," healing ceremonies after them, and drawings for prizes and closing.

About 170 attended Day 1 activities, and the event is sponsored by the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians and Red Lake Chemical Health Programs, along with other participating agencies.
