Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community donates lifesaving AED's to the Red Lake Nation

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) generously donated two, lifesaving heart defibrillators (AED's) to the Red Lake Nation on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. Nathan Crooks, SMSC Member Representative and Fire Fighter for the Mdewakanton Sioux Community Department, delivered the two AED's to the Red Lake Nation College and provided a short training session for college staff.

Automated External Defibrillators, known as AED's, are one of the most important life-saving tools in the field for first responders. One of the AED's will be placed in the first floor of the new Red Lake Nation College campus in the Bremer Student Union. The other one will be placed in the Tribal Fitness Center of the Indian Health Service (IHS) on the Red Lake reservation. These donations are yet another excellent example of the tremendous generosity of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. The SMSC has provided Red Lake and hundreds of other Tribes and non-Indian Communities across the country, AED's to help provide assistance to organizations that need, but cannot afford, these critical, life-saving AED's.

The SMSC has also provided the Red Lake Tribe with large donations to help build community centers, a Boy's and Girl's Club, a modern community skate park for children, and gaming loans to help build two of Red Lake's new casino operations. With the gaming loans, Red Lake's new gaming facilities bring in more revenue to help support and build the Red Lake community and will help diversify the economy.
