After more than a foot of snow in places, Minnesota digs out

The whir of snowblowers and the sound of shovels scraping driveways and sidewalks will resonate through neighborhoods across the Twin Cities Wednesday morning as residents dig out from the “Big Dump.” And that’s before hitting the highways and freeways that are still snow covered in places even though crews have been out all night.

Light snow was still falling in parts of the metro early Wednesday morning and blowing and drifting snow made for treacherous travel conditions. A handful of spin outs and crashes had been reported as of 5:45 a.m. in the Twin Cities. Some highways in southwestern Minnesota remained closed for a second day.
