Charles Andrew Gotchie, "BIMIIZHAA-ZHINGOS", (Follows the Weasel) of the Bear Clan and honoring his mother of the Bullhead Clan. Chuck was 54 years old. He began his spiritual journey on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the St. Mary's medical center in Duluth. Chuck was born on April 30, 1961, in Cass Lake, the son of Leo Gotchie, Sr. and Phyllis Ann (Martin) Gotchie. He grew up in the Ball Club-Deer River area and joined the U.S. Marine Corps following high school. He returned home from serving his country and eventually became Leech Lake Gaming's General Manager of the White Oak Casino in Deer River.

Chuck loved being with his family. He was a special uncle who took the time to teach his nieces and nephews right from wrong. His grandchildren were also very important to him, and he developed a special bond with his grandson Bryson. Charles followed his teachings and based his life upon the Anishinabe values and beliefs. He enjoyed attending all the pow-wows in our area, especially the United Tribes pow-wow. Some of the other enjoyments in his life were hunting, fishing, gathering, ricing, setting net, being a dedicated Twins and Vikings fan and shooting pool. Chuck took pride in helping his brother raise his niece JoAnna Smith Gotchie and nephew Leo Gotchie, III. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father Leo Gotchie, Sr., sister; Michelle "Pippi" Gotchie, his daughter's mother; Sonya Smith, grandparents; Andrew and Mary Gotchie, and Ben and Nancy Martin. Numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives, and valued friend James Humphry.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his mother; Phyllis Gotchie, daughter; Theresa Smith Gotchie (Trent Larson), son; Clayton Bellanger, brothers; Leo Gotchie, Jr., Benjamin (Elaine) Gotchie, Milton Gotchie, Larry Gotchie, Sr., George Gotchie and Andrew Gotchie, sisters; Francine (Tim) Smith, Myrna Gotchie, Bernadette Gotchie, and Nancy Gotchie (Jace Cash), grandchildren; Bryson Gotchie, Jocelyn Larson, Blake Bellanger, and Ava Bellanger, other relatives and many friends.

A wake for Chuck will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2016 and will continue until the 11:00 a.m. service on Wednesday, February 3, all held at the Lone Eagle Community Center in Ball Club. Pallbearers for Chuck will be all his brothers; Leo Gotchie, Jr., Benjamin Gotchie, Milton Gotchie, Larry Gotchie, Sr., George Gotchie and Andrew Gotchie. Honorary pallbearers will be Sevron Gotchie, Michael Robinson, Jr., Kohl Gotchie, Ben Gotchie, Jr., JoAnna Smith Gotchie, Leo Gotchie, III, Scott Fairbanks, TaLance Fairbanks, Larry Gotchie, Jr., Travis Smith, all his nieces and nephews.
