Artesian Arts Festival Call for Native American Artists

Application deadline is Feb. 26

Applications are now being accepted from all Native American artists for the 2016 Artesian Arts Festival, set Saturday, May 28 in Sulphur, Okla.

Native artists may sign-up on a first come, first served basis. Application deadline is Feb 26.

Open to artists from all federally recognized tribes, artists will compete in a juried competition in as many as 21 categories.

Artists must be at least age 18 and present documentation of citizenship in a federally recognized Native American tribe.

Organizers are accepting 90 Native artists for the 2016 Artesian Arts Festival.

Cash awards will be presented for first, second and third place in each category, as well as "Best of Show."

Hosted by the Chickasaw Nation, the 2016 Artesian Arts Festival is a community celebration of all forms of art, with an emphasis on Native American art and artists.

The festival will focus on diversity in art media and a variety of visual art will be on display such as paintings, basketry, jewelry, sculpture, metalworking, bead work, textiles and pottery.

A wide variety of entertainment and food vendors is also planned.

Open to the public at no charge, the Artesian Arts Festival welcomed more than 4,500 to last year's festival.
