Anoka County traveler found to have Zika virus

ANOKA, Minn. -- The Twin Cities have seen Minnesota’s first confirmed Zika virus infection since 2014, but officials say the rare mosquito-borne tropical disease is not at risk of spreading through the state.

An Anoka County woman in her 60s began developing symptoms of the virus Jan. 1 after traveling to Honduras. She did not require hospitalization and is expected to fully recover, according to the Minnesota Department of Health, which, along with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, confirmed the case Wednesday.

This is Minnesota’s first confirmed case of a Zika infection since a man who traveled to French Polynesia was found to be infected with the virus in 2014.
