Chickasaw scholarships set; deadline Feb. 5

ADA, Okla. -- Four scholarships and one fellowship are available through the Chickasaw Foundation.

Scholarship applications and supporting documentation must be delivered or be postmarked by Feb. 5, 2016, to be considered for the spring semester.

Students who have received a scholarship from the Chickasaw Foundation for the 2015-2016 academic year are not eligible to apply. Those who did not receive an award from the Chickasaw Foundation are eligible to apply for scholarships applicable to their major, but must submit all information required.

The following scholarships are available:

The John Bennett Herrington Scholarship is for full-time Chickasaw students with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher in their junior or senior year at any four-year college or university. The student must be pursuing a degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics, geophysics, natural science or a related field approved by the Chickasaw Foundation board of trustees and possess a demonstrated interest in space aeronautics.

The Native Americans Transforming Visions (NATV) Scholarship is also available for application by a full-time student who is a high school graduate and resident of the Chickasaw Children’s Village. Student must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and attend vocational-technical schools, a trade school, or any undergraduate program at a two- or four-year college/university.

The Lynn C. Gibson Memorial Scholarship is for a Chickasaw student enrolled in a career technology program leading to a secretarial/administrative assistant certification with a grade average of “B” or better.

The Chickasaw Foundation Career Technology Scholarship is for a Chickasaw Nation employee who is at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate. The student must be attending a career technology, vocational tech or trade school and be maintaining a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

The Chickasaw Foundation announced the opening of the 2016 Holisso: The Center for Study of Chickasaw History and Culture Fellowshipapplication. The fellowship is for Chickasaw students pursuing a master, doctoral or professional degree in Chickasaw history and/or culture.
