Sen. Lankford Introduces Resolution to Support Replacing Andrew Jackson with Woman on the $20 bill
WASHINGTON – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) Thursday, January 21, 2016, introduced a Senate resolution to support the removal of Andrew Jackson from the twenty-dollar bill.
As president, Andrew Jackson’s Indian removal policies led to the forced relocation of millions, and the death of thousands, of American Indians. In June, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew announced that a significant woman from American history would be placed on the ten-dollar bill. This denomination was selected because it is currently next on the Treasury’s list of paper currency to be redesigned. This resolution calls on the Administration to instead use the twenty-dollar bill and remove Jackson due to his inhumane Indian policies.
