30 years for kidnap, assault on Red Lake reservation

DULUTH, Minn. — A man convicted of kidnapping and a brutal assault on the Red Lake Indian Reservation has been sentenced in federal court to 30 years in prison.

Darrell Lussier was earlier found guilty of causing traumatic brain injuries, broken bones and other injuries to three people at the home of one of the victims on the reservation in February 2015.

Prosecutors say Lussier had argued with one man, beat him, tried to strangle him with a shoelace and threw him in a crawlspace beneath the house. Lussier then assaulted another man at the home, who is legally blind, and the man's sister and threw them in the same crawlspace. The victims were discovered the following day.

The 36-year-old Lussier was sentenced in Duluth Wednesday.
