Bemidji State University Department of Music Presents Dr. Patricia Surman

The Bemidji State University Department of Music presents Dr. Patricia Surman, renowned Yamaha performing flutist and assistant professor of flute and director of woodwind studies at the Metropolitan State University of Denver, in concert on Jan. 23.

Performing a mixture of traditional and contemporary music, Dr. Surman will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex Main Theatre.

Prior to the concert, Dr. Surman will also hold a master class at 1 p.m. in the Main Theatre. Both the masterclass and the concert have free admission and are open to the public.

About Dr. Patricia Surman

Dr. Patricia Surman, assistant professor of flute and director of woodwind studies at Metropolitan State University of Denver, maintains an active solo, chamber and orchestral performance schedule. She earned her bachelor’s degree in flute performance from the University of Redlands and her master’s degrees in flute performance and musicology, as well as her doctorate in flute performance, at the University of North Texas. In addition, she holds a diploma from the Académie Internationale d’Eté de Nice. In the spring of 2014, she served on faculty at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Greece, and researched contemporary Greek flute repertoire. She has performed internationally with DuoInteraktiv, a performing and inventive ensemble she co-founded that fuses traditional instruments with computer science.
