Wind chill advisory issued for region

BEMIDJI -- The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for the Bemidji area through noon Tuesday, with temperatures dropping to as low as 35 below zero in some areas.

Much of north-central and northwest Minnesota are in the advisory, as is northeast North Dakota, the weather service said.

The coldest wind chills should come at about 3 a.m. Tuesday. For the Bemidji area, Tuesday's high is forecast for only 0, but wind chills could drop the temperature to about 30 below at times.

Severely cold wind chills can cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin, the weather service said.

There also will be areas of blowing and drifting snow possible, which will make for reduced visibility and icy road conditions; light snow was expected overnight in the Bemidji area.

Temperatures will drop into the evening Tuesday, with 11 below the high temperature, with wind chills about 24 below. Wednesday and Thursday offer a bit of a reprieve, with daytime temperatures expected between 10 to 15 degrees.
