Dawn Star Monroe, Waabiigonese (Little Flower), Gah-gee-ga-do-o-paw-gwun equay (Talking Pipe Woman), age 44, journeyed to the Spirit World on January 4, 2016.

She was born in Minneapolis, MN on August 12, 1971 the daughter of Harlan Downwind and Debra Monroe.

Dawn Star's most precious titles were being a mom, a fiance, a daughter, a grandma, an aunt, a sister, and a friend. She loved taking care of her grandchildren, going to powwows, listening to powwow music, especially her son Isiah's drum group Hoka Hey. She loved to laugh, and spend time with friends and family. She also enjoyed spending time with the love of her life, Robert

"Butch" Johnson. Dawn Star was a strong and beautiful woman, her personality, and caring heart shined through her warm smile and honest advice. She was also well known for her willingness to help others in need. She impacted many lives with her presence by being a person to depend on and look for comfort in. She will be missed for a life time and spend the remainder of our lives inside our hearts.

Survived by fiance: Robert Johnson; mother: Debra Monroe; father: Harlan (Laura) Downwind; Grandmother: Margaret "Wicky" Monroe; daughters: Samaria Mountain (Preston D) & Anissa Olson; sons: Wendell Olson & Isiah Olson; grandchildren: Jaden Olson, Larayna Dionne, Preston Dionne Jr., Leila Aguilar, Auriella Waloke, Kevin Dionne Jr. & Jaelynn Dionne; sisters: Jessica Monroe, Denise Feather, Candace "Candy Lynn" Downwind, Skye Downwind & Rene Downwind; aunts: Vala Monroe, Leslie Monroe, Lisa Monroe, Stacy Monroe, Beverly Downwind (Terry) & Jeanine Downwind (Chris); special children: Arien Monroe, Elena Acevedo, Rianna Acevedo, Preston Olson, Sheena Feather, Victoria Johnson, Alicia Johnson & Anthony Johnson, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her grandparents: Rupert & Alberta Downwind and Valarien Monroe; aunts: Lora Downwind, Maxine "Macky" Brown, Delores "Susie" Sargent & Sandra "Bing" Chase; uncles: Mitchell Downwind, Kevin Downwind & Rupert "Jumbo" Downwind Jr.; cousins: Rochelle Sargent, Tammy Fairbanks & Jade Downwind.

Funeral services for Dawn Monroe will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Little Earth Community Gym in Minneapolis, MN. Larry Smallwood will officiate.

An all-night wake will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 beginning at 5:30 PM at Little Earth Community Gym.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Preston Dionne, Sheldon Ellis, Francisca Macedonio, Carlos Macedonio, Bonita Lemieux, Eugene Olson, Randy Downwind, Dino Downwind, Byron Deegan, Anthony Deegan, Marshall Skinaway, Matthew Skinaway, Lee Olson, Jorge Medina, Frany Robertson, Karla Roberts and Renee Sargent.

Casket Bearers will be Robert "Butch" Johnson, Wendell Olson, Isiah Olson, Preston Olson, Ross Downwind and Alan Monroe.

Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, MN assisted the family with arrangements.
