New law prompts Yakama Nation, other tribes to increase opposition to crude oil, coal exports

A new federal law that allows export of U.S. crude oil is bringing a wave of opposition from Native Americans, who argue the exports will undermine their treaty rights.

During a Tuesday hearing before the Washington state Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council (EFSEC) at the Clark County Fairgrounds, Yakama Nation Chairman JoDe Goudy spoke vigorously against an oil terminal that has been proposed by Tesoro Corp. and Savage Industries Inc. at the Port of Vancouver, Washington.
