Vene to serve as chair, Sumner as vice-chair for county board

BEMIDJI—At its first meeting of 2016, the Beltrami County Board of Commissioners installed new officers for the coming year.

Joe Vene, District 2 representative, was installed as chair of the commission, while Tim Sumner, District 4, was elected as vice chair.

Earlier Tuesday in a work session for the board, commissioners heard from staff and discussed possible future policies and/or ordinances in regard to business signage on county-owned properties, as well as signs and other objects (such as fences or rock walls) on county right-of-way land.

Also during the work session, John Pugleasa, economic assistance director for the county, gave the board an update on a research project the Health and Human Services Department is working on with the Diversionary Work Program. Pugleasa outlined some of the research project's findings, and additional staff recommendations will be made to the board in two weeks.
