FTA announces $10 million in Tribal Transit grants

The Federal Transit Administration announced in December $10 million in transportation grants for American Indian and Alaska Native tribal governments, including three in Minnesota.

The grants, awarded through the FTA’s Tribal Transit Program, will provide funds to 55 tribes in 18 states. Of those, Minnesota tribes were awarded more than $585,000.

The Bois Forte Band of Chippewa will receive $300,000 to purchase new buses to expand its service. Currently, the tribe has an employee shuttle program to and from the Fortune Bay Resort Casino in the city of Tower. The FTA grant will help facilitate a partnership with transit agencies in the area, according to an FTA release.
