Chase results in shots fired, serious injury

UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore. – Oregon State Police reports that at approximately 1:17 a.m. today, a pursuit began in Umatilla County north of Pendleton that left the driver of the vehicle seriously injured. The incident started at Milepost 2 on Fulton Road and ended on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. OSP states that it believes the person being pursued fired shots at troopers during the incident.

Initially, the troopers attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding.

“The vehicle attempted to elude troopers at a high rate of speed,” OSP Lt. Bill Fugate writes in a prepared release. “The pursuit continued on rural roads where a trooper successfully deployed spike strips, flattening at one tire. The vehicle continued to elude and entered the Umatilla Indian Reservation.”
