Warriors lose to Thief River Falls in overtime 71-68 to take second in Russ Smith Holiday Tornament

THIEF RIVER FALLS - The Thief River Falls Prowlers jumped out quick in the Championship game against the Red Lake Warriors in their annual Russ Smith Holiday Classic Tournament on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, going on an 8-0 run before Red Lake could score. By halftime the Warriors trailed 42-34.

With 4:28 to go in the game, the Warriors tied it at 55-55 and it was a see-saw battle until the end of regulation, where it remained tied at 61-61 and sent the game into overtime.

The Warriors scored first in OT, and the lead changed several times. In the final seconds of play Red Lake had several opportunities to go ahead, but turnovers, 3 Warriors fouled out (Jeremy Cook, Bryce Cloud and Rob McClain) and missed shots gave the Prowlers the victory.

Red Lake had 28 turnovers on the night, and Thief River Falls had 27.

Cloud led the Warriors with 18, four of which were 3-pointers, Martin and Morrison each had 13, McClain had 8 and Cook hit for 7.

It was Red Lake's 1st loss of the season as they are now 9-1. Thief River Falls is a 3AAA team while the Warriors are a 1A team.

The Warriors won't play again until January 7, 2016 when they travel to Walker-Hackensack-Akley. They have two more away games to follow, one in Cass Lake on January 8th and a trip to Mahnomen on January 11.

On January 12 they will host Kelliher-Northome at 6 PM
