Affidavit: Former deputy staffed pot grow security

A former Shasta County Sheriff’s sergeant, a cigarette mogul and two Indian tribes worked together in an operation to grow up to 60,000 marijuana plants in Modoc County, according to a search affidavit filed in the U.S. Eastern District Court.

Authorities raided the grow operations’ two sites, at the Desert Rose Casino and the XL Ranch outside Alturas Wednesday. They seized at least 12,000 plants and more than 100 pounds of processed marijuana, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. As of Thursday afternoon, no one has been charged in connection to the grow, according to the Attorney’s Office.
