Robert Louis Kingbird, “Makoose”, from the Eagle Clan, age 71, of Red Lake, began his spiritual journey on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Jourdain-Perpich Extended Care in Red Lake. Robert was born on November 1, 1944 in Ponemah, the son of Simon and Bella (Horton) Kingbird.

Shoopon enjoyed dancing the traditional dance at pow-wows, spending time with his family, going to the casino and fishing. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Family that Shoopon joins again are his parents; Simon and Bella, and one son; Dennis Green.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his children; Rhonda Zettameyer of Eagan, and Robert L. Kingbird, Jr. of Moose Lake, sisters; Violet Cloud of Ponemah, Marian Medicine of Fort Francis, and Rose Marie DeBungie of Cass Lake, many cousins, nieces, nephews and former wife Rose Mary Kingbird.

A wake for Shoopon will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 and will continue until the 9:00 a.m. service on Thursday, December 24 all held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah. Active pallbearers for Shoopon will be Travis DeBungie, Arnold Medicine, Robert Kingbird, Jr., Edward Cloud, Travis Jones, Timothy Jones and Greg Good. Honorary pallbearers will be Doris Clark, Nikki Johnson and Kayla Jones. Interment will be held in the Ponemah Cemetery at Ponemah.
