Large feline sighting confirmed by Potawatomi Tribal Police

A large feline was sighted on Thursday, the Potawatomi Tribal Police Department confirms. The feline was spotted in the area of 142nd and O Road.

The Jackson County Game Warden and Kansas Department of Wildlife have been notified.

If this is a mountain lion, the public is advised:

■ Do not approach the animal. Immediately contact the Potawatomi Tribal Dispatch at (785) 966-3024.

■ Do not intentionally hunt the animal.

■ If the animal is posing an immediate threat to an individual or livestock it is permissible to take action to prevent harm or property damage. If the mountain lion dies in the course of an action, the carcass must be submitted to the Kansas Department of Wildlife.
