Lady Warriors shoot 23% from the field, drop first game of season to Sacred Heart 68-56

THIEF RIVER FALLS - Last Years NCTC Champions, the Red Lake Lady Warriors struggled in their semi-final match with Sacred Heart on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, and only hit 17 of 71 baskets for 23% from the field, as Sacred Heart advanced with their 68-58 win.

Sacred Heart will play Clearbrook-Gonvick on Thursday for the Championship.

Red Lake will play Stephen-Argyle on Thursday for 3rd Place.

The Lady Warriors were in a tie at 2-2 in the first quarter, but never had the lead in the game. Sacred Heart was up 19-9 at one point, until runs by Red Lake kept it pretty close throughout the half. At the mid-way point Sacred Heart led 36-28.

Red Lake came to within 2 a couple of times, but could not keep it going to over take Sacred Heart, who would then go on runs of their own.

The baskets just weren't dropping for the Lady Warriors, as they hit just 1 of 20 attempts from 3-point range and were missing easier shots underneath.

One of their key players, Grace White, fouled out halfway through the second half and that hurt them both offensively and defensively.

Then again, it could have been the schedule. This game was their 4th game in 5 days, one of which was a trip to Fond du Lac on Saturday.

They will get one day's rest before Thursday's game in Thief River and a Friday night game with Fosston at the Sanford Center.

Avery Holthusen led Red Lake with 20 points and 15 rebounds on the night.

The Lady Warriors are now 6-1 on the season and Sacred Heart remains unbeaten at 6-0.
