Vehicle insurance information needed
ST. PAUL — Minnesotans registering and renewing license tabs or transferring ownership of motor vehicles and motorcycles will need to provide insurance information beginning Jan. 1.
The Legislature changed state law to require insurance information for vehicle registration. Prior to the change, the law required owners to attest that the motor vehicle or motorcycle was covered by an insurance policy during the registration process; but the specific policy information was not required.
Motorists must provide the name of the insurance company, policy number and policy expiration date.
The law was changed in an effort to reduce the number of people driving without insurance.
