CASS LAKE—They're told Santa's making a list. They're reminded of it all year long. Still, no matter how well behaved, how nice they are, some children wake to find no tinsel-trimmed package tagged with their name under a twinkling tree. A group of volunteers in Cass Lake are giving parents a little help Friday to make sure all children are all smiles Christmas morning.
Parents and guardians in the Cass Lake area are invited to participate in the "Gift of Love" Christmas toy project Friday. The annual event is part of a non-discriminatory toy project developed in 2010. Unwrapped toys will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Cass Lake Boys & Girls Club.
Kenn Mitchell and Bev Lee developed the "Gift of Love" campaign after they learned another organization was donating toys to children only enrolled in the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. Mitchell said hearing some children could be excluded from receiving a Christmas gift was not acceptable.
