Icy roads lead to crashes in region; more snow forecast

BEMIDJI -- Several accidents were reported overnight Thursday and Friday morning as rain and snow resulted in icy roads throughout the region.

Three people escaped serious injury after a head-on collision Thursday night on U.S. Highway 71.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Conrad Gustafson, 59, of Mizpah was traveling north on Highway 71 at milepost 338 when his 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit crossed the center line and struck a 2006 Hyundai Sonata driven by Aaron Grotte, 46, of Blackduck. Gustafson suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center, the patrol said. Grotte and a juvenile passenger were not injured. All three people were wearing seat belts.
