A body, believed to be Downwind's, was located and exhumed from a shallow grave northwest of of Bemidji. It has been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy and to confirm the identity.

Downwind was last seen October 19th in Bemidji. At one point family friend and reality TV star Dog the Bounty Hunter made plans to travel to Minnesota and aid in the search for her, instead he hired a private investigator and offered a cash reward.

In November police said they suspected foul play in her disappearance and named Cimmarusti and Davis as persons of interest in the case.
