Hearing for Vizenor postponed after White Earth Chairwoman hospitalized
MAHNOMEN -- The hearing for White Earth Chairwoman Erma Vizenor that was due to be held Wednesday was postponed after Vizenor collapsed and was taken to the hospital by ambulance before arriving to the hearing. According to sources close to Vizenor, she had been ill all week.
Vizenor was supposed to go before all 12 members of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe (MCT) at a hearing to face allegations that she violated MCT law by “working outside of her scope of authority” and continuing efforts to implement the new White Earth constitution, voted in two years ago.
The White Earth Tribal Council (which now has three new members on it from two years ago) had approved a resolution last spring which put the brakes on implementation.
