MN Overcharges Taxpayers $1.9 Billion

“Lawmakers out of excuses on reducing taxes,” says State Director Flohrs

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Americans for Prosperity Minnesota State Director Jason Flohrs issued the following statement in response to news that the Minnesota budget is projected to have a $1.9 billion surplus:

“Tax surpluses of this magnitude prove taxpayers have been wildly overcharged,” said State Director Jason Flohrs. “And usually, when I’m overcharged, I expect to see some kind of refund. With the Governor now retracting his gas tax proposal and government coffers overflowing, it’s time for Minnesota lawmakers to get serious about reducing taxes and putting money back in the pockets of Minnesota taxpayers.”

“Friday’s report also detailed serious concerns about long-term job and wage growth, and without real changes to our tax and regulatory environment, the growth our state has seen could quickly fade away. Meaningful tax reform will help make Minnesota more prosperous and competitive in the long-run. Given the current budget surplus, now is the time to act. Lawmakers are out of excuses on reducing our taxes.”
