A life of music: Musician Annie Humphrey performs Friday at the Rail River Folk School

BEMIDJI — Music has always been a part of Annie Humphrey's life.

Not only is music a medium in which she can express herself, but in the past it was a way for her to support her and her children by playing gigs during tough financial times. Or as she says, her music career began "out of pure necessity." She has three children, now ages 21, 19 and 11.

Life is more stable now for her, and she is still recording and performing music — as well as pursuing an art career. She has a new album, "Uncombed Hair" set to be released Friday during a CD release show from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Rail River Folk School where she, along with other area bands, will perform.
