Ellsworth “Ife” Loren Berrard, age 81, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Red Lake HIS Hospital from complications with pneumonia.

Ellsworth was born in Red Lake on June 18, 1934 to Benjamin Brown and Louise Tallchief Brown. He attended schools in Redby and Red Lake. When Ellsworth was of age he left school and enlisted with the United States Air Force. Upon leaving the Air Force, Ellsworth lived in Chicago for a brief period of time before returning to Red Lake.

Throughout his life Ellsworth also lived in Minneapolis, Grand Forks, ND, Tacoma, WA and Bemidji. In his “senior” years Ellsworth moved from Bemidji and took up residency at the Red Lake Senior Housing Units where he lived for a brief time. When Ellsworth developed serious health issues he was moved into the Jourdain-Perpich Extended Care Center in Red Lake where he resided until his recent admission to the IHS Hospital.

Uncle “I” as he was lovingly referred to by his family had a wonderful sense of humor. He made many friends throughout his life’s travels. Uncle “Ife” liked to give nicknames to some of his nieces and most of his grandnieces and nephews.

Ellsworth was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, brothers; Eugene and Wallace Brown Sr.,and Wilfred Berrard, sisters; Juanita Holstein and Vivian Lawrence and niece; Carol Holland.

He is survived by one brother; Elliot Berrard of Chicago, nieces; June Holstein, Florine Prentice, Karen Bedeau, Ann Thunder, Diane Brown, Jo Tallchief, Valerie, Michelle, Stacy and Kelli Berrard and Theresa Glendenning, nephews; George and Wallace Holstein and Wallace “Dutch” Brown, one grandson, one great grandson, 22 great nieces and nephews and many great great nieces and nephews.

A small service for Ellsworth will be held at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 1st at Northern Peace Funeral Home in Walker with cremation to follow. Burial services for his ashes will be held in the spring and he will be laid to rest next to his sister Juanita at the Redby Community Cemetery.
