Winter weather advisory issued through Thursday evening

BEMIDJI -- Bemidji and the surrounding areas were listed in a winter weather advisory Wednesday evening into much of Thursday, with as much as 5 inches of snow expected in some areas.

Driving conditions Thursday morning also could be hazardous, as the new snow, and the colder temperatures, come after several days of rain in the area. Wind gusts of up to 41 mph also are forecast for Thursday in some areas. The forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of snow Thursday, according to the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks, which oversees Bemidji and northwest Minnesota.Most of the snowfall will come from 6 a.m. to noon, the weather service said.

Thursday's high temperature is forecast at 26 degrees, and could drop to a a low of about 17 degrees. Temperatures will stay that way the next few days, hovering in the mid-20s to low 30s through Tuesday, however no new snow is expected over the weekend.The counties listed in the winter weather advisory are Beltrami, Kittson, Roseau, Lake of the Woods, east Marshall and north Clearwater, including the cities of Bemidji, Roseau, Warroad, Greenbush, Baudette, Newfolden, Hallock, Karlstad, Lancaster, Middle River, Red Lake, Redby, Ponemah, Bagley and Clearbrook.
