Billy Frank receives Presidential Medal of Freedom


TAHOLAH — Billy Frank Jr., the late Nisqually tribal leader, has been named as one of 17 recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The awards will be presented at the White House on Nov. 24.

“Billy Frank Jr. was a man whose voice will echo in the hearts and minds of both Native and non-native people for a long, long time to come,” said Fawn Sharp, president of the Quinault Indian Nation and of the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians.
